Alan Makes Books

Wednesday

This morning I went up to Shorewood to get a free iBook battery that someone had gotten by mistake. He thought he was getting a free PowerBook battery but, as I said, he was mistaken.

So, the guy put it back out on the group e-list.
"Who wants a free iBook battery?"
"I do. I do." I wrote back.

He invited me in and we talked a bit about Macs. We talked hardware a bit and that seemed like a dry gully. Software was a little more interesting and when we got to books we hit the gusher.

He makes books. Photo books. Apple books from iPhoto and Pages. Blurb books from .. well, Blurb.com. Hard-cover, soft-cover, color, black and white; whatever. They are gifts to friends and family.

He's taking a medieval art course at UWM and the professor likes a specific book so much that he, the professor, wants a copy permanently installed in the UMW Art History library. Something like that.

So, my guy is doing that tomorrow. Going to the library to have a book installed. Or, whatever they do with books.

Dang. Is that cool or what? He is really somebody now.

Got me all inspired. Interesting to be talking about what one does with the tool rather than the tool itself. That sparked him.

It sparks me too. What are you doing with your tools?

Got passion?
