Sunset Shed

Mom's new neighbor put up a shed blocking her view. We thought we'd spray paint a little smile on it.

Just for grins.

What a fun Thanksgiving.

Judgment Day

If God created the world in six days
and rested on the seventh, how long
will Judgment Day last?

And, if on that day, sunrise starts in
your back yard, it could be over for you
well before breakfast.

Untitled: to a Robyn

One morning I woke up in Wisconsin
and you were in New York and
the possibility of our
ever meeting again was
on the endangered species list

(going the way of
dodo birds and dinosaurs,
in the direction of
whooping cranes and whales,
becoming a possibility extinct)

I called the D.N.R.,
the High Sierra Club of the Heart,
the Audobon Society of Finer Feelings
and then I called you

and you had seen it, too
(perhaps the last existing opportunity)
flying wild and free
in a refuge between us

Sunday Drive

The New Day

The New Day

The light comes
softly across the body
waking it slowly, gently.

Suddenly the ego is alert
and proclaims a new day.
A speech, a parade,
a doctoral honorarium
the ego knows it has
come into its own.
All this fuss
is just for us
and a bright future
assured
for Me Me Me

The light
and the body
know
other
wise.

Frog Prince

Some there are princes

and some there are frogs

yet to be a prince

is to sit on a log

is to know you're not far

from being a frog

Pat and I had a booth at the foreign language convention for 15 years. Left four years ago. Work, but fun.

Great to pop in and visit today. Sweet sad. We did recon for a revival of adventures. Got good intel and there's ink on the drawing board again.

And then off to the Oshkosh Outlet Mall. Not a place we shop. BUT! ... We both got new bags at Wilsons Leather. Corning/Corell (sp?) a dangerous kitchen supplier - and Harry and David is so cool and ...
well .... a lovely day for a ride up Highway 45.

West Wind #2- Mary Oliver

Yesterday I was sitting on the floor at Coldwater Creek while Pat tried on clothes. Great 70% off sale. Store was crowded.

There was a stack of Ten Poems to Open Your Heart by Roger Housden.

I was excited to find it and read this one aloud to Pat over near the jackets.

Read to self.

Mmmmmm.

Alan Makes Books

Wednesday

This morning I went up to Shorewood to get a free iBook battery that someone had gotten by mistake. He thought he was getting a free PowerBook battery but, as I said, he was mistaken.

So, the guy put it back out on the group e-list.
"Who wants a free iBook battery?"
"I do. I do." I wrote back.

He invited me in and we talked a bit about Macs. We talked hardware a bit and that seemed like a dry gully. Software was a little more interesting and when we got to books we hit the gusher.

He makes books. Photo books. Apple books from iPhoto and Pages. Blurb books from .. well, Blurb.com. Hard-cover, soft-cover, color, black and white; whatever. They are gifts to friends and family.

He's taking a medieval art course at UWM and the professor likes a specific book so much that he, the professor, wants a copy permanently installed in the UMW Art History library. Something like that.

So, my guy is doing that tomorrow. Going to the library to have a book installed. Or, whatever they do with books.

Dang. Is that cool or what? He is really somebody now.

Got me all inspired. Interesting to be talking about what one does with the tool rather than the tool itself. That sparked him.

It sparks me too. What are you doing with your tools?

Got passion?

Parade

Just gave a verbal pat on the back to my 250th LinkedIn connection. I told him I was holding a parade in his honor. Thankfully, it's a super nice day out. On nice days I don't mind cleaning up after the elephants so much.

Galaxy has 'billions of Earths'

Galaxy has 'billions of Earths' is the article title. It's just numbers.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7891132.stm

"Recent work at Edinburgh University tried to quantify
how many intelligent civilisations might be out there.
The research suggested there could be thousands of them."

That's the last sentence in the article. I wonder if we're counting us among the intelligent civilisations.

Will there be a Day of Judgement?

From one of my horoscopes today.

Will there be a Day of Judgement? I love the way people ask this. What do they think every day that they have ever lived through has been? What, exactly, is it that human beings do besides judge each other? We judge the past according to the standards of the present. We judge the people around us by the moral codes we have been taught to uphold. Will there ever be a 'day of non-judgement'? Now, that really would be a great day for the Earth. Maybe you can help us all get to the golden tomorrow. Be less judgemental today.

Saturday afternoon nap

Well, we went up to the post office to drop off some bills. Pat decided we should have some chocolate, and crunchies. And then together we went after the ice cream, and soda, and nuts, and we just went nuts buying naughty stuff.

And, then, so that we didn't cram it all into our mouths at once, we went to Culver's for a 2 p.m. lunch. Time for a Saturday afternoon nap right about now.

I mean - before we eat the high fructose corn syrup.

Lines from the Inaugural Poem

A couple lines from the Inaugural Poem, "Praise Song for the Day," written and recited by Elizabeth Alexander
remind me of the ten thousand recipes and language as sustenance in Alphabet Zoupe.
What do we choose to say next?
